A bonding pair is a shared pair of electrons that constitutes a covalent bond between two atoms; it is drawn as a line in a Lewis structure. It is held in the region between the two nuclei, which it draws together. A bonding pair contrasts with a lone pair, which belongs to a single atom and is not shared.
