Activated complex (transition state)

Explanation (EN)

The activated complex (transition state) is the short-lived, high-energy species formed at the top of the energy barrier during a reaction, in which old bonds are partially broken and new bonds partially formed. It sits at the maximum of the reaction's energy profile and can either go on to products or revert to reactants. Its energy above the reactants is the activation energy.

Explanation (ZH)

About the IPA

The International Phonetic Alphabet is a standardized system of symbols used to represent the sounds of spoken language.

It helps linguists, language learners, and educators accurately describe pronunciation across languages.

Example: the word "hello" in British English is transcribed as /həˈləʊ/ in IPA.
