A pipette is an instrument used to measure and transfer a precisely defined volume of liquid. It is calibrated to deliver a fixed or adjustable volume accurately, and is widely used to take aliquots in volumetric analysis. A pipette delivers a known volume, in contrast to a burette, which measures a variable volume as it is delivered.
