Condensation polymerisation (polycondensation)
Condensation polymerisation, also called polycondensation, is the building of a polymer in which the monomers join together with the loss of a small molecule, such as water or methanol, at each new linkage. It matters because it is the route to important materials such as polyesters and polyamides. It contrasts with addition polymerisation, in which monomers add together without loss of any atoms, the whole monomer being incorporated into the chain.
About the IPA
The International Phonetic Alphabet is a standardized system of symbols used to represent the sounds of spoken language.
It helps linguists, language learners, and educators accurately describe pronunciation across languages.
Example: the word "hello" in British English is transcribed as /həˈləʊ/ in IPA.
