p orbital
p 轨道
A p orbital is an orbital with angular momentum quantum number l = 1; it has a dumbbell shape with two lobes on either side of the nucleus. There are three p orbitals in each subshell that has them, oriented along the x, y, and z axes. Their directional shapes, unlike the spherical s orbital, are important in determining molecular geometry.
About the IPA
The International Phonetic Alphabet is a standardized system of symbols used to represent the sounds of spoken language.
It helps linguists, language learners, and educators accurately describe pronunciation across languages.
Example: the word "hello" in British English is transcribed as /həˈləʊ/ in IPA.
