A calorimeter is an insulated apparatus used to measure the heat released or absorbed during a chemical or physical process. By measuring the temperature change of a known mass of substance (usually water) inside it, the heat of the process can be calculated. A bomb calorimeter is a constant-volume type used to measure heats of combustion.
