Polymerization

聚合 (jù hé)

Explanation (EN)

Polymerization is the chemical process by which monomers are linked together to form polymers. There are two main types of polymerization: chain-growth polymerization and step-growth polymerization. In chain-growth polymerization, monomers add to the active center of a growing chain one at a time. In step-growth polymerization, monomers react to form dimers, trimers, and eventually long chains. Polymerization is used to produce a vast array of synthetic polymers with diverse properties and applications.

Explanation (ZH)

About the IPA

The International Phonetic Alphabet is a standardized system of symbols used to represent the sounds of spoken language.

It helps linguists, language learners, and educators accurately describe pronunciation across languages.

Example: the word "hello" in British English is transcribed as /həˈləʊ/ in IPA.
