Salt

Explanation (EN)

A salt is an ionic compound produced by the neutralisation of an acid with a base, consisting of the cation from the base and the anion from the acid. Note the chemical sense of the word: in chemistry a 'salt' means any such ionic compound, not only the table salt (sodium chloride) of everyday speech. For example, the reaction of nitric acid with sodium hydroxide yields the salt sodium nitrate.

Explanation (ZH)
